Who Knew? – Newest Car Brand Revealed – Polestar

Polestar, the Volvo Car Group’s performance brand, announced its future as a new standalone electric performance car brand. Polestar currently builds the S60 and V60 Polestar, performance road cars with over 250 developments over-and-above the standard Volvo products. It also offers Polestar Engineered performance hardware upgrades and engine software optimizations for existing Volvo products.

In a joint venture with Volvo’s parent company Geely, Polestar is unveiling the 600hp Polestar 1. The Polestar 1 is a two-door, 2+2 seat Grand Tourer Coupe with an ‘Electric Performance Hybrid’ drivetrain. It is an electric car supported by an internal combustion engine. At 93 miles on pure electric power alone, it has the longest full electric range of any hybrid car on the market.

Who Knew? – Volvo Offers Eye Protection

For the upcoming solar eclipse NASA warns that except during the brief total phase of the solar eclipse that the only safe way to view the event is through a special-purpose solar filter. Volvo being passionate about safety has produced a custom eclipse viewer for XC60.

The viewer is essentially a large shade made of ISO-certified 12312-2 material that clips onto the panoramic moonroof and allows occupants to view the eclipse without risk to their eyes, effectively turning the XC60 into a tiny observatory.

Volvo Cars plans to sell one million electrified cars by 2025. It has announced that every Volvo model from 2019 will have an electric motor. It has been over a century since the invention of the internal combustion engine and now electrification is entering as the new player.

The technology to make it possible and the customer demand for electrified cars is driving Volvo’s commitment to introducing three levels of electrification in its model range. Mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure electric versions will be offered.

Do You Need It? – Child Booster Cushion/Backrest

Volvo Cars was the first car maker to actively test car seats since the 1960s. They continue to be a leader in the development, testing, and correct usage of infant, child, and booster seats. While the infant and child seats are designed to be used as rearward facing, the booster seat is for forward facing children.

Teaching adults to install and operate a child seat is one thing, but getting a child to stay in the seat can be a whole different story. That is why this new generation of booster cushion and backrest are more breathable and comfortable. Besides at four years old it is important to be in style and a good looking booster is way cooler than a traditional child seat.

Who Knew? – Volvo Auto Steering to Safety Goal

The new XC60 has a few new features to help it achieve Volvo’s goal of no one seriously injured or killed in a Volvo by 2020. The safety features are designed to provide the driver with automatic steering assistance to help avoid potential collisions.

Volvo has been working with collision avoidance systems for years and is proud of achieving a 45% decline in rear-end front collisions in Sweden thanks to their collision warning with autobrake system. They hope to achieve even better results with the introduction of auto-steering features.

There are three new features. At speeds between 31-62 mph City Safe engages when automatic braking alone would not help avoid a collision. It will provide steering assistance to avoid collision with vehicles, pedestrians, and large animals.

Cargo nets, nothing special right? Just some stretchy cords to hold your luggage on the roof. Well maybe that is what you will find at the auto parts store around the corner, but Volvo has a whole variety of styles and colors that may have you thinking differently about how handy these nets can be.

Using elastic, mesh, and fabric there are designs to hold everything from maps to drink containers to a cargo area full of sporting equipment. Not a one size fits all, but made specifically for your model and year Volvo. There are nets to fit over the pockets in the cargo area, envelope-style nets to hold grocery bags, spider nets to hold cargo to the floor, nets for the glove box door and console tunnel for ease of access to items. The list goes on and on.
